When you study for the BA (Honours) in Social Care Practice, you will receive the education and training to equip you to work as a Social Care Worker. Social Care Workers plan and provide professional care to vulnerable individuals and groups of all ages who experience marginalisation, disadvantage or special needs (Social Care Ireland 2016). Social Care Workers work with children and adolescents in residential care, young people in detention schools, people with intellectual or physical disabilities, people who are homeless, people with alcohol/drug dependency, families in the community or older people.

What will I experience?

On completion of this programme, you will demonstrate both leadership and management capabilities to support and enable those entrusted to your care. Work placements, amounting to a total of 800 hours, form an essential part of this four-year programme. Placements are undertaken in years 2, 3 and 4. You will learn the attitudes, knowledge, skills and proficiencies that are unique to the role of a Social Care Worker.
