A group of 9 students took part in the 1st edition of an intense week-long medical education summer camp in one of the best medical training centresin Bydgoszcz, Poland and are flying back to Dublin today.
Students from all over Ireland participated in the Medical Poland MiniMed Programmeto see what working as a clinician is really like. They took part in a live surgery of endovenous laser ablation, took part in medical simulation workshops, experienced laboratory work and mentoring.
This hands-on and intense programme introduced them to the complex challenges of life in the medical profession and various medical programmes delivered in English at Polish universities.“We came to Poland from all parts of Ireland to see what medical education here is really like. Some of us are applying to medical schools here this year, some planning to do that next year.” says Donnachagh – one of the participating students.
“It is important that students know their options well before they make a decision about their university education as they are deciding about 6 years of their life. We still come across a perception of Poland that is far from the truth – particularly held by people who have never been there.Once they visit and realise that the facilities, education and healthcare quality are at world-class levels, they -out of the sudden – want their offspring to study there as places in Ireland are limited and it seems will be more scarce than ever.”
says Artur Banaszkiewicz, Head Student Counsellor at Medical Poland Admissions Office.
“As the group is coming back to Dublin on Friday afternoon, we hope they will spreadthe word and encourage their peers not only to look at Poland as a higher education destination, but also to consider medical careers as we all need more doctors” says Adam Krawczyk, Founder and Head of Medical Poland.
